What do i do if i booked the wrong date/time/experience
Do not panic; simply get in touch with us via the number listed in the Contact us section or in your booking confirmation as soon as you realise that you have made an error and our team will advise you from there.
When should we arrive for a game
What is your cut-off time
If you are running late or can no longer attend for whatever reason, please get in touch with us as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you, within reason.
How do i cancel/reschedule a booking
You can find our Cancellation & Rescheduling policy in our Terms & Conditions. At times, we can make exceptions to our no cancellation policy (at our own discretion) so if you need to cancel/reschedule a booking please get in touch with our team as soon as possible using the contact details from the Contact us section.
Can you refund if some team members cancel
Due to the nature of our business being that of live experiences we do not refund in the event that team members drop out. We will do our best to help you reschedule where possible if this affects the capacity of the rest of the group to attend.
If you are unsure of the final numbers attending a game session, then we advise to book for the minimum number of players required per experience -you can then add more players to your booking before or on the day.
Are your experiences/facilities wheelchair accessable
Yes, for the most part our experiences are wheel chair friendly – but please do enquire with our team ahead of making a booking on the experience of your choice. Please also notify us of special requirements and we will do our best to ensure that these are met, where reasonably possible.
Escape Room FAQ's
What is an escape room
An escape game is a real life adventure game where players are locked in a themed room and given a set amount of time to solve their way out of an immersive, fictional scenario using teamwork and logic.
At HintHunt, each team is assigned a dedicated gamemaster to look after your game to help you along the way with cryptic clues should you get stuck.
Is the door really locked
Although the door locks behind you, we do have emergency exit buttons which can be pressed at any time, opening the door and releasing you or your team mates immediately.
How many people can play
We recommend teams of 2 – 6 players per room, but can accommodate up to 8 players when circumstances permit.
Larger groups can book multiple rooms in the same time slot.
How long does an experience last
Teams are given 60 minutes to escape the room, but can often (and hopefully) escape before their time is up. Teams are required to arrive 15 minutes before the game for an introduction, and will need some time after the game for team photos.
Age limits
Given the complexity of the games, children under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by at least 1 adult per team (unless otherwise agreed upon with HintHunt management).
Children under the age of 7 play for free.
Outdoor Escape Games FAQ's
What is an outdoor escape game
Our outdoor games are unique, immersive citywide outdoor games that incorporate the puzzles and code-cracking elements of an escape room without the confines of a physical room.
You’ll be venturing around the V&A Waterfront using the latest augmented reality technology to complete your missions
Is the game weather dependant
Our games will run regardless of weather conditions so please be prepared – hats and sunscreen for the heat, rain jackets and warm clothes for the wet and cold!
We do offer the option of switching routes to play within The Watershed should you prefer – don’t worry, you still get all of the challenges, you will just be solving them under one massive roof!
Should you have further concerns, please contact us in advance and we will assist as far as we possibly can.
How many people can play
We recommend teams of 2 – 6 players but can accommodate larger groups across multiple devices at the same time. Yes, this does mean you can compete against your friends and family for ultimate bragging rights!
How long does an experience last
Teams are given 120 minutes to complete the game, but can often (and hopefully) complete it before their time is up. Once your 120 minutes are up, you have to immediately return to HintHunt with all relevant equipment to allow our gamemasters enough time to reset for the next groups!
Teams are required to arrive 15 minutes before the game for an introduction, and will need some time after the game for team photos.
How far will i run/walk
Although exploring different locations adds to the enjoyment of the experience, our games are designed so that you will only travel between 1,5 and 2,5 kilometers throughout your game. Check the specific game’s details for the estimated distance you will need to cover.
What should i wear
Although the games are only as intense as you choose to make them, you are required to be mobile. We recommend dressing comfortably and suggest you make wise shoe choices. Also bring anything to protect yourselves from the heat of the sun or the wet and the cold.
Age limits
Given the complexity of the games and the responsibility of our equipment, children under the age of 16 are required to be accompanied by at least 1 adult per team (unless otherwise agreed upon with HintHunt management).
Children under the age of 7 play for free.
Amazing Races FAQ's
What is an amazing race
Our amazing race experiences are based on the thrill and excitement of the popular TV show.
Teams will use their own smartphones as they navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint around the V&A Waterfront. Each checkpoint requires teams to complete a task or a challenge before getting the clue to their next location.
Can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace or, for the ultra competitive, be an intense rush to win the race!
Is the game weather dependent
Our games will run regardless of weather conditions so please be prepared – hats and sunscreen for the heat, rain jackets and warm clothes for the wet and cold!
We do offer the option of switching routes to play within a predominantly under cover route with only a few portions of the race being exposed to the elements.
Should you have further concerns, please contact us in advance and we will assist as far as we possibly can.
How many people can play
We recommend teams of 2 – 3 players but can accommodate groups of up to 40 Players per route per session.
For larger groups, please contact capetown@hinthunt.co.za and we can present an option suitable to the size of the group.
How long does an experience last
Races can be completed from anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes – depending on the team partaking. We do request that teams return to HintHunt at the end of 90 minutes to be reunited with your group and for a team photo.

Online Escape Games FAQ's
What do i need to play online escape games
We want our games to be as accessible as possible for everyone and we have a selection of games available.
Some of our games may require a printer, internet connection or access to video conferencing software but most of all, they need teamwork and an adventurous spirit!
How long does an experience last
Our games are designed to be completed anywhere between 45 to 120 minutes, depending on your selection. Don’t stress, you can solve the game at your own pace as you have 24 hours to complete them (from start time) before your login code is deactivated.
How many people can play
We recommend teams of 2 – 5 players per game, but multiple teams can play at the exact same time.
Each team needs to purchase their own game which contains their resource pack and unique login code.
