General FAQ's

If you’d like to simply book an experience or check availability, please use our booking system to find an appropriate slot. If you feel like bringing more friends and would like to book more rooms at the same time, please turn to our booking system and look for parallel availabilities in 2 or more of our rooms.

Do not panic; simply get in touch with us via the number listed in the Contact us section or in your booking confirmation as soon as you realise that you have made an error and our team will advise you from there.

As HintHunt provides a live experience with fixed start times, just like a theatre, concert or sporting event, we cannot accommodate arrivals later than your booking’s start time as this would cause your game to run over time and negatively impact the bookings following yours.

If you are running late or can no longer attend for whatever reason, please get in touch with us as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you, within reason.

At times, we can make exceptions to our no cancellation policy (at our own discretion) so if you need to cancel/reschedule a booking please get in touch with our team as soon as possible using the contact details from the Contact us section.

Due to the nature of our business being that of live experiences we do not refund in the event that team members drop out. We will do our best to help you reschedule where possible if this affects the capacity of the rest of the group to attend.

If you are unsure of the final numbers attending a game session, then we advise to book for the minimum number of players required per experience -you can then add more players to your booking before or on the day.

Yes, for the most part our experiences are wheel chair friendly – but please do enquire with our team ahead of making a booking on the experience of your choice. Please also notify us of special requirements and we will do our best to ensure that these are met, where reasonably possible.

Escape Room FAQ's

An escape game is a real life adventure game where players are locked in a themed room and given a set amount of time to solve their way out of an immersive, fictional scenario using teamwork and logic.

At HintHunt, each team is assigned a dedicated gamemaster to look after your game to help you along the way with cryptic clues should you get stuck.

Although the door locks behind you, we do have emergency exit buttons which can be pressed at any time, opening the door and releasing you or your team mates immediately.

We recommend teams of 2 – 6 players per room, but can accommodate up to 8 players when circumstances permit.

Larger groups can book multiple rooms in the same time slot.

Teams are given 60 – 75 minutes to Escape the Room, but can often (and hopefully) escape before their time is up. Teams are required to arrive 15 minutes before the game for an introduction, and will need some time after the game for team photos.

Given the complexity of the games, children under the age of 13 are required to be accompanied by at least 1 adult per team (unless otherwise agreed upon with HintHunt management).

Children under the age of 7 play for free.

Mission Room FAQ's

Not exactly, but it has some escape room DNA.

You’re not locked in a room and there’s nothing to escape from. Instead, your team moves through a series of different challenge zones, taking on a mix of  challenges.

Like an escape room, you’re working together against a time limit but instead of trying to escape, your goal is to maximise your points across the challenges before time is up.

The more points you bank, the more time you earn to take on the Final Boss.

Think less “escape the room” and more “beat the mission.”

Bomb Time is designed for teams of 4 – exactly 4 players per game.

Got a bigger group? No problem. With a new game starting every 20 minutes, a group of 12 can all get started within the same hour, split across three teams.

More teams = more competition and more bragging rights.

Yes but it’s not all about breaking a sweat.

Bomb Time mixes physical, skill and problem-solving challenges, so you’ll need your brain just as much as your body.

That said, you’ll definitely be moving, enough that you could probably clock it as a workout and grab those Discovery points while you’re at it.

Comfort is key – you’re going to be moving!

Wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in, with activewear recommended.

And remember, Bomb Time is a recordable experience under neon lights, so if you want to look as good as you play, throw on something neon or reflective and let yourself glow.

Bomb Time itself isn’t recorded but we definitely recommend capturing the action! 

Selfie sticks are available, with a dedicated recording position in each zone, so you can set up your phone and capture your team taking on the challenges.

Record the wins, the fails and everything in between – then share your moments on social media and don’t forget to tag HintHunt Africa!

Absolutely – one mission is never enough. 

The zones and challenges stay the same but sequences within the challenges can change, meaning you can’t simply rely on what you did last time.

Plus, there’s always a score to beat. Come back, change your strategy, maximise your points and fight for your spot on the leaderboard.

Played it before? Now play it better.

Your team’s final score puts you in the running for the daily, monthly and all-time leaderboard.

Bomb Time is completely replayable, so your first score doesn’t have to be your best. Come back, rethink your strategy, maximise those points and fight your way up the rankings.

The leaderboard is there to be played for – how high can your team climb?

Bomb Time can be enjoyed by all ages, but we recommend it for players aged 7 and up.

For younger teams, we also recommend having at least one older/taller player among the four, as some challenges may require a little extra height or reach.

It’s all about teamwork – sometimes that means bringing the tall friend!

Amazing Races FAQ's

Our amazing race experiences are based on the thrill and excitement of the popular TV show.

Teams will use their own smartphones as they navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint around the V&A Waterfront. Each checkpoint requires teams to complete a task or a challenge before getting the clue to their next location.

Can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace or, for the ultra competitive, be an intense rush to win the race!

Our games will run regardless of weather conditions so please be prepared – hats and sunscreen for the heat, rain jackets and warm clothes for the wet and cold!

We can also offer the option to switch your booking to an indoor Escape Room experience (subject to availability). Please note that this may come with a price difference.

Should you have further concerns, please contact us in advance and we will assist as far as we possibly can.

We recommend teams of 2 – 3 players but can accommodate groups of up to 40 Players per route per session.

For larger groups, please contact capetown@hinthunt.co.za and we can present an option suitable to the size of the group.

Races can be completed from anywhere between 45 and 90 minutes – depending on the team partaking. We do request that teams return to HintHunt at the end of 90 minutes to be reunited with your group and for a team photo.

Teams are required to arrive 15 minutes before the game for an introduction, and will need some time after the game for team photos.

Although exploring different locations adds to the enjoyment of the experience, our routes are designed so that you will only travel between 1,5 and 2,5 kilometers throughout your experience.

Check the specific route’s details for the estimated distance you will need to cover.

Although the routes are only as intense as you choose to make them, you are required to be mobile. We recommend dressing comfortably and suggest you make wise shoe choices. Also, bring anything to protect yourselves from the heat of the sun or the wet and the cold.

Outdoor Escape Games FAQ's

Our outdoor games are unique, immersive citywide outdoor games that incorporate the puzzles and code-cracking elements of an escape room without the confines of a physical room.

You’ll be venturing around the V&A Waterfront using the latest augmented reality technology to complete your missions

Our games will run regardless of weather conditions so please be prepared – hats and sunscreen for the heat, rain jackets and warm clothes for the wet and cold!

We do offer the option of switching routes to play within The Watershed should you prefer – don’t worry, you still get all of the challenges, you will just be solving them under one massive roof!

Should you have further concerns, please contact us in advance and we will assist as far as we possibly can.

We recommend teams of 2 – 6 players but can accommodate larger groups across multiple devices at the same time. Yes, this does mean you can compete against your friends and family for ultimate bragging rights!

Teams are given 120 minutes to complete the game, but can often (and hopefully) complete it before their time is up. Once your 120 minutes are up, you have to immediately return to HintHunt with all relevant equipment to allow our gamemasters enough time to reset for the next groups!

Teams are required to arrive 15 minutes before the game for an introduction, and will need some time after the game for team photos.
